What is a Document Camera?


Document Camera - A camera mounted on a stand, allowing for capture of text or 3-dimensional objects. The image is typically displayed through an LCD projector. (http://www.tufts.edu/orgs/edmedia/gloss.shtml)

A document camera can also be described as a visual presenter.


Document cameras are connected to a computer and allow you to:

  • Project the image
  • Annotate the image
  • Save the image

How are Document Cameras used in the classroom?


  • Show how a calculator works
    • Share images
    • For a math lesson and using math manipulatives
    • With a microscope
    • Show how a thermometer works (introduce ice to show the temperature dropping)
    • Correct a test, show correct answers being worked out on the displayed piece of paper.
    • Read a book, the pages would be displayed
